INDUCTIVE BIBLE STUDY
Can you give me a simple explanation of Inductive Bible Study?
Inductive Bible study is a proven method that is effective, transferable and transforming, through the power of the Holy Spirit. It helps ordinary people (of all ages) and scholars alike to read and study the Bible. It takes you to the Bible first before other sources so you can discover truth for yourself. More information.
Can I tell my Church leader about Inductive Bible Study? Absolutely! Please share how you have personally benefitted from studying inductively or if it is new to you, pray and ask God what you should say, and please encourage him/her to visit this website. If you have any of our resources, you may wish to show them, or you could consider taking them through one of the lightning studies. If you would like Precept Ministries UK to pray with you, let us know. We are always delighted to speak with church leaders so do ask them to contact us, or if you have permission, please pass on their contact details and we'll get in touch.
What study should I do next? Evaluate how your last study went and consider choosing another book in the same series or click here to review some alternative suggestions. Please pray and allow the Holy Spirit to lead you and remember, we're always here to help, so please give us a call on 01722 770028.
Are you an American ministry? No. We are a British organisation registered with the Charities Commission (England and Wales 1998). We are part of Precept Ministries International, which operates in over 180 countries worldwide, with each country operating in its own cultural context and run by local nationals. God raised up Jack and Kay Arthur, an American couple, to start Precept Ministries International in 1970. The current team of authors is predominantly American so we benefit from not having to translate the studies. But remember, inductive Bible study was being used long before the USA was founded!
I am a church leader and may be interested in IBS. How do I start? The simplest thing to do is to speak to us on the phone. That way we will be able to listen to your particular situation and recommend the best way forward.
What are the costs of training? Whilst we don’t have a set charge*, we are a faith-based ministry and rely on donations. Our minimum suggestion is around £10-20 per person per workshop. Donations given go towards our travel and subsistence expenses, the cost of materials we give you and any other expenses like room hire and incurred office costs. *The exception is for some special events and anything including accommodation.
Can you come and help us get started? Yes. We have a team of people who can come and help you get started in person but it does depend a little on where you live! We may also be able to link you up with an existing group who could offer local help and advice. If we cannot visit you in person, however, meeting via skype is a good alternative. We look forward to hearing from you.
I want to join a group. Is there one near me? There are a growing number of Precept groups across the country. They vary in many ways: size, men only or women only groups, mixed groups, mums and toddlers etc. Some prefer their details not to be made public online, others prefer to remain an invitation-only group. We will do our best to connect you to an existing group if there is one in your area or you may wish to start your own. You and one other person is a group! Please complete a contact form and we'll be in touch.
Have you got any tips for me about leading a group? We have prepared some 'Top Tips' to help you lead our studies but don't forget to read the introduction to each study book as this will give you very helpful information. We also run specific workshops that will equip you to lead inductive studies.
What if I am leading a group and I need help? It depends what the issue is but if it is about one of our studies or leading them, or you have a question about the Inductive Bible Study method, please do contact us or give us a call.
What support is there for my group? We offer support through prayer, training workshops, and are always willing to talk on the phone, correspond by email, or even skype. If you would like us to pray for your group, please contact us and let us know your prayer request(s).
Can you pray for me or my group? Absolutely. If you have a prayer request relating to your individual study or your Precept Bible study group, or would like to receive the prayer Bulletin, please click here.
How do I order? You can order either over the phone (01722 770028) or online. Thank you for ordering through us – you are helping to establish people in God’s Word by doing so. Commercial retailers who sell our resources do so for the profit made on the books (which we do not see) and do not offer our service and support.
Where do my materials come from? Precept Ministries UK, based in Salisbury, stocks all the resources that you will need. If you live in Northern Ireland or Scotland, we encourage you to purchase your resources through the Precept offices there, Precept Ministries Scotland or Precept Ministries Northern Ireland. All of our studies are written by a team of Precept Ministries' own authors.
How long will it take to receive my books? We aim to despatch the next working day by second-class post or courier. Large orders of Precept-Upon-Precept (PUP) materials may take up to 2 weeks to arrive.
Help! Someone has joined my group at the last minute and we have no books for them so what do we do? Don’t panic, Mr Mainwaring! We offer a very useful service allowing you to download for free the first week only of many of our studies. For the longer 40-Minute studies only part of the first week is available to download. You can do this via our shop (go to the product page and click on the "Take a Look Inside" link or the "Lesson 1 Free Download" link). Therefore, if you have someone joining a new study at the last minute they will be able to join in too. If they are joining after the first week, a book will have to be ordered for them.
What About Postage? We do charge postage and this will be added to the cost of the resources as you check out at the online shop.
I live abroad. How do I order books? To place your order, please call the office +44 (0)1722 770028 as we shall have to take payment too. Our office hours are Mon-Fri 9am – 5pm except Thursdays which are 9am – 2.30pm. NEVER put your card details in an email to us as this is not secure.
What is your returns policy on books? We operate a 30-day returns policy and are happy to refund the cost of the books only, provided that they are unused, undamaged or unopened and are in a saleable condition. Click here for our returns policy.
Can I collect books in person to save on postage? Of course. However, it would be helpful if you called the office first. All of our PUPs,CDs and DVDs are produced on demand, so please make sure you order them in advance. Our address is Elim Christian Centre, Dews Road, Salisbury, SP2 7SN and our office hours are Mon-Fri 9am – 5pm except Thursdays which are 9am – 2.30pm.
How do I pay for books? If you are ordering online, your payment will be processed via Paypal and you can choose to pay either through a Paypal account or by card (without having a Paypal account). If you order over the phone, you can pay by card or choose to send us a cheque (made payable to 'Precept Ministries UK'). If you call into the office in person, you can also pay by cash, as well as by card or cheque.
What are the costs? Whilst we don’t have a set charge*, we are a faith-based ministry and rely on donations. Our minimum suggestion is around £10-20 per person per workshop. Donations given go towards our travel and subsistence expenses, the cost of materials we give you and any other expenses like room hire and incurred office costs. *The exception is for some special events and anything including accommodation.
How can I share Inductive Bible Study (IBS) with other people? You can print off one of our lightning studies or purchase some study books, gather some people together and get a group going. You could also help organise a training workshop where we can come and equip people with IBS skills. Or you could become a Volunteer Trainer or Advocate, click here for details.
SUPPORTING THE WORK OF PRECEPT MINISTRIES UK
How can I support your work? Your donation makes a significant difference. In 2015, 52% of our income was from voluntary donations, that is £45,000. Every pound counts, especially as we are currently around £1,500 short each month of our budget for 2016. Please donate today and help transform a life or to set up a regular donation please click here for a standing order form, and either use the information to set up your regular giving online, take a completed form into your bank, or send a completed form to us and we’ll process it for you. You can also volunteer with PM UK or pray.
How can I help spread the word about Precept? The best way to do this is simply to tell others about the impact that inductive study is having on your life and how God is transforming you as a result. Why not volunteer as a Precept Advocate? Or perhaps consider hosting a training event at your church or in your area.
